REVIEW ON BENZACLIN®

BenzaClin® Topical Gel, distributed by Dermik Laboratories, a business of the Sanofi-Aventis Group, U.S. LLC, is a prescription treatment for acne breakouts, especially in teens. The company website speaks plainly that BenzaClin® was aimed to primarily help teenagers through the challenge that is acne.

HOW DOES BENZACLIN® WORK?

The company website claims the BenzaClin® can deliver results after two weeks of use (or fourteen whole days). In addition, it is the “number 1” prescribed acne medication in the United States today. (Curiously, it seems that the way the product is marketed, it’s being limited to US residents only).

The product capitalizes on Benzoyl peroxide and antibiotics - a rather aggressive gesture against the anaerobic bacteria responsible for the existence of acne. Benzoyl peroxide as acne treatment has been around for a very long time now, and BenzaClin® is one of those products that place faith in the effectiveness of the sterilizing agent.

DOES BENZACLIN® REALLY WORK?

1) Perhaps the most visible benefits to using BenzaClin® would be its use of Benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin. Clindamycin is actually an antibiotic that can help kill the acne-causing bacteria upon contact. Benzoyl peroxide on the other hand, helps kill the bacteria by introducing hydrogen and oxygen into the pores. Oxygen is poison to anaerobic bacteria, which might explain why it is being used in combination with clindamycin.

2) Another benefit with using BenzaClin® is ease of use - the topical gel can easily be applied to the surface of the skin. The whole of the face may be treated with just applying the gel. The cysts as well as itchy areas can be treated with the gel.

3) As a regulating mechanism, BenzaClin® can be gotten through a doctor’s prescription. This is a good thing because it contains active antibiotics. Antibiotics are generally good - but there are some people who experience adverse side effects to antibiotics. To be safer, the product has not been made into an OTC medication for acne.

BENZACLIN® SIDE EFFECTS (USER REVIEWS)

It’s a good thing that the company does not pretend BenzaClin® has no side effects, potentially dangerous effects or contra-indications. Unlike other products, BenzaClin® negates itself as much as it builds up its image as an effective treatment for acne.

1) The product has only been tested on mild to moderate acne conditions. This does not bode well for cases of extreme acne - which accounts for more than half of all documented acne cases especially in the United States. This means that the product might not be effective for extreme cases of acne in adults. Many adults actually face the challenge of having to deal with adult acne - which is more pervasive and harder to ignore because it tends to spread to the chest area. Adult acne is humiliating as it is very painful.

2) BenzaClin® causes the side effects of itching, flaking skin and red skin - sure signs that the skin is reacting violently to the Benzoyl peroxide. In instances of extended use, Benzoyl peroxide has the potential of burning a chemical hole through the human skin.

3) The clindamycin present in the topical gel also causes the side effect of internal problems - like diarrhea. Also, the product is not recommended to potential users who have had their bouts with colitis.

BenzaClin® is being resold by online pharmacies for $57.99 (25 g, 1% and 5% strength) and $84.99 (50 g, 1% and 5% strength). A 15% pharmacy discount can be acquired through the BenzaClin® official website.
