The ancient art of Ayurveda has been practiced in India for many centuries and is presently gaining foothold in the West. Ayurvedic medicine says that all diseases stem from improper organ imbalances and poor diet. The proper diet using natural herbs can decrease the rigors of acne and block further breakouts.
The first principle of Ayurveda focuses on the role of energy in determining the health of a person. Energy is the core of all human activity, and when there is an imbalance of energy, the tissues and organ systems begin to fail.
Acne is no different from the other afflictions of the human body. As such, it must be caused by imbalances inside the body. There are three centers of energy in the body, according to Ayurveda: 1) Vata; 2) Pitta; 3) Kapha.
These three central energy spots need to find equilibrium. If they are in equilibrium, you become healthy. If not, the reverse happens. Think of the yin and yang principle of Chinese traditional medicine.
Like most traditional medicines, balance is of utmost importance to Ayurveda. When you aggravate the three centers of energy, you become ill. Your dosha is the own body’s balance. We start off with having perfect doshic constitutions. However, because of modern living, our doshic constitution often becomes unstable.
Imbalances are often due to 1)dietary choices, and 2) lifestyle.
Bad dietary choices include too much of the white flour products, white sugar products, greasy foods, fried foods and spicy foods.
If you combine bad dietary habits with the following bad lifestyle habits, you will become ill:
• Stress
• Tension
• Polluted environments
• Excessive use of synthetic chemicals
When the pitta dosha becomes aggravated too much, you will get acne.
It’s possible to use the ancient art of Ayurveda to heal your acne at home. The following activities are recommended:
• Drink juice from the fresh leaves of aloe vera. Do this at least twice a day.
• Applying nutmeg to the afflicted areas in your face. Add some water to the nutmeg to produce a paste that you can apply like a cream or ointment.
• Create face packs from orange peels. Pound the orange peels and add some water. The paste should be applied generously to the afflicted regions of the face, neck, back or chest, or wherever the acne has manifested itself.
The Sunder Vati herbal drink is also recommended. The Sunder Vati drink is composed of the following:
• Ginger
• Holarrhena antidysenterica
• Embella ribes
• Kampo
It appears that some of the traditional remedies in Ayurvedic medicine make use of heavy metals. Heavy metals in large amounts are never safe for the human body.
There has been no scientific test to prove the effectiveness of this approach to treating acne. If there are, they haven’t reached the level of the popular to be known.
If you were willing to try this approach, perhaps it would be a good idea to pick a few ‘topical’ remedies. If you wish to ingest something with exotic ingredients, it is recommended that you first consult with your doctor to avoid any undue injury to your health.
